Small Practices Population Health Groups Benefit from Affordable Technology

Equality Health was recently featured in an article titled “Small practices, population health groups benefit from affordable technology” by Jeff Lagasse. The article appears on the Healthcare Finance website and explores the use of cost-effective technologies to better practice and patient outcomes.

Equality Health’s mission is to reduce health disparities in underserved populations through innovative technologies designed to provide a better healthcare delivery system for cultures that have struggled with integrating into the traditional US healthcare system. “The Affordable Care Act did a lot to increase the number of insured in that population,” says Hugh Lytle, CEO of Equality Heath, “but when we talk about community, we’re talking about a traditional health plan network that doesn’t include the things that are relevant to a big subculture like the Hispanic community. Would I want to work with a midwife instead of an OB? Would I want to work with a faith healer, because that’s my background and that’s what I trust? That’s what we’re focusing on.”

Beyond new technology, a core Equality Health initiative will be the building of cultural care centers in the communities they serve. These centers will provide health education, job training, transportation services, and other resources that address the social determinates of health that affect underserved populations. “It’s a pretty big mix of economics and cultural factors that go into how people seek care,” said Lytle. “We’re trying to help the clients we serve to understand what’s going on.” Through the use of technology and cultural care centers, Equality Health is hoping to increase health awareness and make healthcare more of a focus in the lives of those they serve.
